Stepping up your Routine

Having an amazing smile is something that everyone wants, although not everyone actively works towards one. In order to achieve your ideal smile, you have to do more than just brush your teeth once or twice a day. Here at Clock Tower Dental, we have some tips that will make sure you get that smile you are looking for!

Scrub, Scrub, Scrub

The most obvious way to improve your oral hygiene is to make sure that you are brushing your teeth regularly. It is recommended that you should brush your teeth twice a day, every day. Brush once in the morning to make sure you are starting your day off with a fresh set of teeth, ensuring that you do not have any leftover bacteria and plaque left over from the night before. Then brush once again at night to clean off the food you ate throughout the day so you can go to bed with clean teeth and make sure no plaque settles in your gums overnight. If you want to take it one step further, brushing your teeth for a third time in the day will make sure your teeth are clean and healthy. Although it is not vital to brush your teeth for a third time in the day, a good time would be to brush after lunch time. This will clean your teeth from your breakfast and lunch, making sure that your pearly whites stay white!

The Truth To Electric Toothbrushes

It is very important what toothbrush you are using to brush your teeth with. The best option as far as toothbrushes goes, is an electric toothbrush. The reason why electric toothbrushes are the best way to go is because it improves your overall oral health. E-toothbrushes are able to get into the cracks and crevices of your teeth to remove the plaque and bacteria in the gums. In addition, these toothbrushes are better for your gums. The electric toothbrush will not damage the gums or enamel, and instead protect and clean them. Being electric, these toothbrushes will keep you more focused while bushing. Most electric toothbrushes have timers in them which will tell you exactly how long you need to brush your teeth for, ensuring that you are cleaning your teeth effectively and efficiently. Although electric toothbrushes are quite a bit more costly than manual toothbrushes, it is a good investment to make for the longevity of your teeth in the long run!

Don’t Forget The Tongue

While it is super important to brush your teeth, most forget that brushing your tongue is just as crucial. There are three reasons why brushing your tongue is vital to the overall health of your mouth: your breath, your tastebuds, and prevention of cavities. Bacteria is everywhere in your mouth, and one of the easiest places for it to cultivate is on the tongue. Although your saliva does its best to fight off the bad bacteria, it can’t do it all on its own. The bad bacteria on your tongue is the main reason why you have bad breath. Just giving your tongue a few scrubs will do the trick to preventing bad breath. Everyone knows that your tastebuds rest on top of your tongue. This being said, if you have too much bad bacteria on there, it can reduce the strength of your tastebuds, preventing you from tasting foods as well as you would with a clean pallet. You may think, “how can not brushing my tongue give me a cavity?” That is a valid question to think about, because most would think cavities come from not brushing your teeth or flossing. As that is true, there is still bacteria in your mouth and ultimately if there is bacteria in your mouth, then there is a chance to get a cavity.

The Backbone To Great Teeth

Although no one likes doing it, flossing your teeth is crucial to ensuring that you are keeping up to date with your oral hygiene. Flossing your teeth removes the plaque and bacteria that get stuck in between your teeth and lodged in your gums. Flossing regularly will prevent gingivitis, which is the decay of your gums. Not only will it prevent gingivitis, it will keep your teeth strong and healthy making sure you are able to keep your teeth for a very long time! The ideal number you should be flossing each day is twice a day. If you take just a few extra minutes after brushing your teeth every time, it will make all the difference in the world for the overall health of your teeth.
